Each high school is given the opportunity to hold a "sports day" at the national stadium. On this occasion, students from the school compete in traditional track and field events, such as the 100m race, 400m relay, shot put, long jump, high jump, as well as the favorite event of the day: the teacher race. Students are broken up into groups or "houses" for the purpose of the sports day. There are also inter-school competitions in track and field events, as well as team events such as football (soccer). Some high schools are more athletically inclined than others, usually a reflection of the support and enthusiasm (or lack of) for athletics by teachers and the school administration.
