Bibliography of Gambia Related Publications
Despite its small size, a great deal has been written on The Gambia. The
following bibliography includes many published sources of information on
The Gambia. Please see the notes for more details.
Notes
-
This bibliography is only a partial list of Gambian related resources.
For more complete Gambian bibliographies, see the entries in the bibliography
section.
-
One should take care to note the date that an item was published. While
some materials (such as linguistic or cultural works) remain useful for
quite some time, other types of material (such as materials on development,
government, or economy) become quickly outdated. This is particularly true
in a developing country such as Gambia that is experiencing rapid change
in many sectors.
-
Many of the categories in the bibliography overlap. For example, an article
about women's gardening could be listed under agriculture, development,
or economy. However each item is only listed once, so to do a thorough
search you should look at other categories of similar focus.
-
Many of the items in this bibliography come from academic journals and
may only be of interest to students and researchers. Categories with broader
appeal include general reference, contempory
fiction, tourism, culture,
and poetry.
-
References for the items in this bibliography have come from a variety
of sources. Most citations are from well established academic databases,
while others were sent in by individuals. Obviously we have not read the
majority of these items, and thus can not vouch for their quality or endorse
their contents. Common sense is warranted.
-
Virtually all of the items in this list are from published sources and
are available to the public. While some items may out of print and many
will be hard to find in a public library, university students and faculty
should be able to obtain most of the items through inter-library loan.
-
