Abuko Nature Reserve

The Abuko nature reserve is located between Serekunda and Brikama, not far from the capital. It is the Gambia's most popular nature reserve and one of the few areas where the forest remains in its natural state as it was 100 years ago. Gambian school groups frequently visit the reserve to learn about the native flora and fauna. Here a student reads about the African lion, which decades ago lived wild in The Gambia. Today there are virtually no large mammals left in The Gambia.
