Stone Circles
Wassau, 1993

The Stone Cirlces are Gambia's version of Stonehedge (or Stonehedge is Britain's version of the Stone Circles). They are quite old and can be found in several areas of the interior of the country, mostly in Central River Division and Upper River Division. I don't think anyone really knows who constructed the stone circles or what they were used for, but I believe the most common archeological theory is that they were some sort of burial sites. They are quite mysterious and a popular tourist attraction.
