Forcing a Smile
Daffeh Kunda, Kwinella

This little girl didn't seem too interested in having her picture taken, but her sisters are trying to make her more photogenic. While most children were more than happy to greet visitors (in fact we were often mobbed by children when walking into the village), some were afraid of the "taubabs" (white people). Occasionally one would scream in terror, while the mother playfully teased "Ning dongo taa y saamba america to" (Mandinka for take this one to America with you).
